Here's the latest update from the PRCA on bull rider Lee Akin:

Akin remains in critical condition eight days after injury

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – PRCA bull rider Lee Akin remains in critical condition in the critical care unit at Baptist Hospital in Montgomery , Ala. , eight days after injury. Akin sustained a traumatic brain injury after being bucked off Smith, Harper and Morgan’s Dick Dasteredly on March 8 during the Southeastern Livestock Exposition and Rodeo in Montgomery .

Akin, of Weatherford , Okla. , suffered a skull fracture after the bull stepped on the left side of his head upon hitting the ground. On March 10, Akin underwent another surgery to relieve additional pressure on his brain. He is currently in a medically induced coma, which is very common with an injury like this as it allows the body to relax and recover more quickly. He remains in the care of a neurosurgeon.

The PRCA will continue to follow his condition and provide updates whenever possible.
